We get it… it’s easy to get comfortable and want to slouch while you are sitting or working at your desk! This sitting position is a main cause for neck and back pain because of the pressure this puts on the spine, so correcting it as soon as possible is going to be crucial!
We have a video that shows you exactly what you can work on at home to help improve posture and relieve pain you may be experiencing in the neck or back.
There are a few things that play a part in poor posture. When you slouch the back is rounded and chest muscles are compressed. When the back is rounded that means the back muscles are very weak due to the constant stretched position the back is in. The opposite applies to the chest in which it is extremely tight. These chest muscles need to be stretched more because the shoulders roll forward causing chest muscles to stay in a contracted state for an extended period of time.
The exercises and stretches we show you in this video focus on targeting these two main factors of strengthening the back and stretching out the chest. If you work on these exercises at home you will slowly start to improve posture and will start to be more mindful of correcting it while you are sitting. The best part is that you don’t even have to leave your desk for most of these exercises!
