What should I expect at the first session?
At the first visit we are going to take the time to listen and make sure we understand what is going on. We want to know what you are feeling and experiencing and how it is affecting your every day life. We want to make sure we understand your goals whether it be walking or competing in a triathlon. We then do a comprehensive medical history, followed by a physical examination that includes posture, strength, joint and muscle restrictions, and gait. Often we will have you perform some key movements that are specific to your sport or activity.
We will educate you on the results of the evaluation and then tell you what the plan will be to get you better and how long it will take to reach your goals. The majority of the time, some treatment will start on that first visit. We want you to start feeling better right away. We also will load you into our app that allows us to give you specific instructions to help you when you are at home.
What should I wear?
For physical therapy, work out or exercise clothing is best. This allows us to view and assess your joints and allows you to move freely as we perform the evaluation. If needed, bring a change of clothes and you can get changed in our bathroom before your appointment.
What type of treatment will I receive?
We use a variety of techniques including hands on functional manual therapy, dry needling, cupping, instrument assisted soft tissue work, massage, and strengthening exercises.
We also do many sport specific assessments. We do video analysis of running gait and we are also certified in bike fitting for cyclists. We often will look at your form of the exercises you do in the gym including different barbell lifts. We are experienced in helping tennis players and golfers with their specific needs and how it relates to their symptoms.
I have been to physical therapy before, what is different about Mission Move?
At Mission Move we understand athletes, because our PT’s are just like you, and we know you need more than just generic treatment.
-Your treatments are completely custom tailored and built around your needs to get you back to your goals pain-free.
-All of our physical therapists have experience in training and high performance along with their extensive background in rehab. We will push you as hard as we push ourselves!
-Our patients are not part of the “Healthcare System”, but have personal relationships with us. Our patients can text us personally and we love when they share that they just crushed a race or Saturday morning workout! We also use an app where we post exercises individualized for just you.
-We all know that the cash-based Physical Therapy model is far superior to the traditional model. Our 1-on1 60-minute sessions not only get you out of pain faster and help fix the root cause of your problems but also allows for us to work on strength training, sport-specific mobility, and overall wellness.
__________________________________________
With most run of the mill physical therapy practices you are treated just like a number in the healthcare system.
-The business requires their PT’s to treat 2-3 patients at a time, which often means your sessions are spent alone with a heat pack, ice pack, e-stim, and/or ultrasound.
-Your program is filled with cookie-cutter stretches and exercises that are not tailored to your goals.
-No one actually pays attention to your movements because there are so many other patients being seen at the same time.
-They often don’t specialize in treating athletes and don’t have the time to work on the performance aspects of your sport.
Do I have to see a Physician before I come to Physical Therapy?
No, Georgia state law allows you to be evaluated and treated by a Physical Therapist without seeing a physician. No prescription is required. In fact, recent research shows that people with low-back pain who visit their physical therapist before their physician, get better twice as fast, and spend half as much money.
If you are experiencing a condition, such as low back pain, please call me directly at 678-400-0300.
How long are the appointments?
Appointments are 1 hour long. Please be prompt and on time. Because we treat each patient individually, there is no waiting around in a waiting room, and your appointment almost always will start at your stated appointed time.
What are your hours?
Monday – Friday 8:00 to 6:00
