Atlanta is the birthplace of amateur league tennis. The Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA) has 70,000 members and is the largest amateur league in the world.  The success of ALTA also convinced the USTA to roll out amateur league tennis nationwide.  Needless to say Tennis is a big deal in Atlanta and a lot of people are eager to play.  I am convinced that hopefully sometime this summer, the pandemic may subside, and tennis competition will resume.

Tennis is just like every other sport in that it puts its own unique stresses on the body. Its really a full body sport that requires a lot of strength, flexibility, and coordination.  Like all sports your body has to adapt to these unique stresses.  That adaptation is what allows you to perform at a high level with the least amount of chance of getting injured.

I see a lot of injuries early in the season when people have not played for awhile and their body is not quite ready for a 3 setter on a hot and humid day. Because of the pandemic, most people have not been playing and therefore put themselves at some risk when things open back up again.

I developed a few exercises to help get your body ready for playing again. These exercises just cover a few basic movements needed in tennis. Now you may need more than this or something more specific to an area that has troubled you in the past. If you live in Roswell, Alpharetta, or Johns Creek I would love to help you get ready for playing tennis again and come back stronger than your friends. At Mission Move Physical Therapy we love helping tennis players perform at their best because we know how important tennis is to you!  Call: 678-400-0300
