Tight hips are something that I see in my athletes on a regular basis. And this is a big deal because the hips are right smack in the middle of the body and so tightness in the hips can cause problems above them in the low back and below into the legs. Tight hips often cause low back pain in cyclists and lack of extension in the running gait. Lack of hip rotation in the golf swing, causes strain in other parts of the body. Squatting and deadlifting form is often altered in a negative way by tight hips.
The hip joint is something that over time can slowly get tight without the person even realizing it. Your hip ROM is such a huge component of your overall ability to move effectively it is really important to address your hips mobility on a regular basis. Stay tuned as I will be going over hip mobility and strength in the next couple of weeks.
By the way, I blame this whole tight hip thing on the use of toilets. We never have to squat all the way to the ground anymore. By a slight majority, most of humans in entire world still actually squat all the way to the ground to go the the bathroom. True story.
